STEP EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM
Pediatric Therapy Services
First Step Pediatric Therapy Services provide diagnostic assessment and intervention services for children from birth to five years of age. Our qualified and experienced staff are dedicated to assisting each child in realizing his or her maximum potential in a family-friendly, child-focused environment. Individual services are available in 30 minute, 45 minute or 60 minute sessions during the regular office hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Fridays.
Speech and language services are available on an individual and group basis. Individual services are available for children from two to five years of age who exhibit delays or disorders of speech, language and/or oral-motor skills as they relate to both communication and feeding. Services are provided by a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist in the areas of articulation or speech sound production, receptive and expressive language development, auditory processing, oral-motor skills and fluency training.
First Step's small group speech and language program is designed to meet the communication needs of the three to five year old population evidencing speech and/o language delays and disorders. The program meets twice weekly for two hour sessions (i.e., Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00-3:00pm). A licensed and certified speech language pathologist designs and delivers each session's activities with the assistance of an aide. The program, which is limited to six participants, utilizes a 3:1 child to adult ratio. As such, participants are ensured hands-on therapeutic structure addressing receptive language development (i.e. comprehension), expressive language development (i.e. speaking) articulation/phonology (i.e. speech sound production), oral-motor skills and pragmatics (i.e. social use of language)
Occupational therapy services are available on an individual basis for children birth to age five through a registered occupational therapist. These services are provided for children demonstrating sensory-motor and sensory integration dysfunction, fine motor delays, difficulty with feeding and self-help skills, visual-motor coordination and visual spatial processing.
First Step Pediatric Therapy Services provide continuity of care for children evidencing need in all or one of the aforementioned areas.
