For 71 years, Via Services has helped individuals with disabilities and special needs achieve greater self-sufficiency and lead richer lives. At Via West Campus, children and adults with a wide array of challenges join in culinary arts classes, learn to get themselves up and ready for a day of fun in the sun, pile into vans for community integration outings to practice money management, practice leadership skills by co-leading art lessons, and master technology that helps them organize their day. They develop work-related skills at their own pace as they plan and harvest from the garden and greenhouse, prepare and serve meals in the dining hall, staff carnival games and booths for their peers, master hygiene and make-up techniques in a mock spa, demonstrate collaboration and teamwork on group projects, and maintain their living lodges.

Those who achieve a level of competency can join in a series of vocational programs known as Adventures in Leadership during their stays at VWC. This year, the Bernard A. Newcomb Foundation will match donations made to Via Services through SV Gives, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000, to support pre-vocational and vocational learning campus-wide. These funds will allow us to purchase electronic organizers and professional quality culinary equipment for hands-on classes, hire a job coach and coordinator for visits to actual work sites, establish additional pre-vocational experiences around office work and facility maintenance, and strengthen ties with area employers.

Help spread the excitement! Tell your friends and family about Via Services and the great work that we do to help individuals with disabilities and special needs lead richer lives. They can get involved too by donating on May 3rd.

Be our champion and help us reach our SV Gives goal of $25,000! These funds will help us serve over 3,900 families in our First Step and Via West programs. Even a small donation makes a difference in the lives of our clients and their families! We can’t wait to celebrate the difference your generosity will make!

    Giving Tuesday Reaches $30k Goal

Thank you to our families and supporters for helping us to reach our goal for Giving Tuesday! Our 13 acre, Via West Campus provides special needs camping services to thousands of children and adults each year through our Via West and Altitude programs, and after 60 years, some of the physical facilities are in desperate need of improvement. Our goal was to raise $30,000 to renovate and shade our campfire circle - a beloved gathering place perfect for working on independent living skills like socialization, outdoor eating, and more.

Currently, the wooden benches and picnic tables are splintering and beyond repair. Our biggest concern is the lack of shade given the hot and sunny climate. The heat and bright sunshine can be daunting for many of our participants and it is dangerous for those with cerebral palsy and other conditions that impair their ability to control body temperature.

The funds raised will allow us to remove and replace the existing benches, resurface the campfire circle area so that it will be safe and wheelchair accessible, install accessible picnic tables and benches, build a pergola to provide necessary shade as well as a framework for vines, and establish a drip irrigation system to nourish the shading vines.

Work on the new campfire circle is slated to begin this spring with expected completion by the start of our 2016 summer season.
