Via West makes the Cupertino Courier!

Rotary gives thanks to OSH

The Cupertino Rotary Club wants to give a “shout out” to Orchard Supply Hardware at the corner of Homestead Road and Hollenbeck Avenue in Sunnyvale. Recently, we had a project to build garden boxes for Via West, a facility caring for special needs youths and adults.

The staff at OSH recognizezd one of our members, Tom Dryer, who leads a lot of our onsite work programs. In talking to him about this project they said they would like to help.

And help they did! Four members from the OSH staff came out and worked for four hours or more each. They not only worked, but being younger, they did the heavier jobs and the tight-space work. We really appreciated their cheerful help and expertise.

What a great neighbor we have in OSH. Thanks, OSH.

Dear Via West Families and Friends,

As we enjoy this wonderful Spring weather, we at Via West Campus have some exciting news to share with you: KaBOOM!, the national non-profit dedicated to the bold goal of ensuring that all children get the balance of active play they need to come healthy and successful adults, has accepted our grant application for a brand-new, accessible playground at VWC using customized products from Playworld Systems. We’re in the final stages of completing the packet for a Silicon Valley-based funding partner to consider, and need your help with just one step.

If you are willing to have your name placed on a petition stating you “are supporting the project and the importance of play in every child’s life”, please email skeefe@viaservices.org simply by typing “yes”. We hope that all of you can support that statement.

Furthermore, if you are interested in participating in a Design Day kick-off meeting, being on the Planning Committee, or joining us on Build Day (most likely Friday, August 26), please let us know by return email as well. We recognize that scheduling constraints make it tough to commit, but at this point we’re asking only for a show of interest.

On behalf of the wonderful children, teens and adults with disabilities that we serve, thank you for a show of support!

Warm regards,

Sandy Keefe, MSN, RN
