Playtime and Social Skills
First Step early childhood educators use many play-based techniques to encourage language development, facilitate pretend play and enhance social interactions with toddlers that participate in our early intervention classes and one-on-one services. View the Playtime and Social Skills Gallery
Circle Time and Language Development
First Step’s early childhood educators and speech/language pathologists design program activities that encourage language and social interaction with peers. Circle time offers opportunities to follow step-by-step instructions from a teacher, use language and gestures to communicate song choices, and build coordination through movement to music. One-on-one, our speech/language pathologists work with children to address delays and issues specific to articulation, fluency, stuttering, voice, social language and oral motor skills. Motor Room and Occupational Therapy
Working with our early childhood educators and occupational therapists children participate in physical activities that are designed to address muscle tone and core strength issues, assist with body coordination and develop fine motor skills essential for drawing and writing. Our motor room is filled with opportunities to practice gross motor skills like swinging, jumping and balancing and to engage children in a variety of sensory activities. Our occupational therapists also target these areas in one-on-one therapy sessions. View the Motor Room and OT Gallery
