The purpose of
this page is to tell you more about our program, familiarize you with our
registration procedure and answer the most commonly asked questions. Camp Costanoan offers weekend respites during the school year as well as summer sessions ranging from 5 to 8 days. Respite sessions are divided into children and adult weekends in order to enhance peer socialization and age appropriate programming. The sessions are divided into lodge groups, taking into consideration their age and gender. Camp serves approximately 70 campers on weekends and between 75 and 120 during summer sessions. The Camp day begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues through 9:00 p.m. with a balanced schedule of activity periods, meals, rest and free time. Campers are given the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities including swimming and horseback riding (summer only) hiking, sports, arts and crafts, sing-a-longs and games. Each evening campers participate in an all Camp program such as a talent show, dance, carnival or campfire. Campers are encouraged to try new and different activities. During the summer sessions, emphasis is placed on individualizing the Camp experience by having campers select their own programs/activities. The camper to staff ratio ranges from 3:1 to 1:1 depending on each camper's needs within the Camp environment. Campers are assigned to a counselor who participates with them in activities, offering encouragement and assistance when needed. Camp staff are men and women with a sincere interest in helping individuals with special needs. A registered nurse is on the campgrounds at all times when Camp is in session. Sign-ups for respite weekends and summer sessions are taken on a first come-first served basis. Camp Costanoan is a very popular and well known program so sessions fill VERY QUICKLY. A percentage of each session's spots are dedicated to 1:1 campers, however these spots are usually taken within the first ten minutes of registration. If you think your child may require one to one attention, please call before the registration date to discuss your child's ratio with us. Reservations for respites are made in September for the following school year and reservations for summer sessions begin in February. Information and schedules of these sessions are sent to individuals who have been to Camp in recent years, as well as to persons who have called in and requested their name be put on a mailing list. If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please click HERE Please note that sending the request form will add you to our NEXT mailing. You will not receive anything until our next mailing unless you call our office and request information. |
